The Rest of Our Story

From Vision to Reality

Seriously.

It all began with Jesus' teaching:

  LOVE GOD and LOVE OTHER

Yes, it was really that simple.

After forty years serving as a minister, I found that while I fully embraced the first part of that teaching, to LOVE GOD, my actions never fully embraced the second part of that which was to LOVE MY NEIGHBOR.  Ouch.

In 2009, I was convicted to be more intentional in LOVING OTHERS.  And for me, LOVE requires action.  And that is when the concept for Heart of the City was born.  And while much changed, a lot was done, and the church I served became much more intentional in loving our neighbors, it wasn't until 2019 that everything lined up for us to fully launch Heart of the City as it's own entity.

  • OUR MISSION-  To LOVE OTHERS, to SERVE OTHERS, and to HELP OTHERS.  When doing all of this, we do it in the name of Jesus.

  • OUR VISION- We see the potential of Heart of the City to be a model for loving, helping and serving local communities, led by local people, using local resources to make those communities better places to live, work and play.  This model will be one that can be duplicated in every town all across the nation.  And when this happens, we will find that each unique Heart of the City entity has the potential to truly be the HEART of each city and it will be a example of what it looks like to LOVE GOD and LOVE OTHERS.

  • OUR PURPOSE-For the Greater Lewisville/South Denton County region, we see the current purpose of Heart of the City Lewisville is to provide assistance with FOOD, CLOTHING, and COUNSELING.  However as needs change, so will the programs of Heart of the City.  We realize in a rapidly changing world, we have to be able to change as well.  Honestly, we are simply trying to be the hands and feet of Jesus, doing what He would do if He were on earth today.

Want to join us?  It is going to be a great ride!

The Faith That Carries Us

image17

A Living Faith

Deep down, all humanity has a yearning to know and worship their Creator.  In every civilization, all over the world, and throughout the centuries, mankind has passionately sought God. It is not a fable, but a true, living faith that is expected of us.

A Loving Faith

God, in the person of Jesus Christ, entered the world to once and for all to pay the price needed to give us access to God.  In doing so, He also provided crucial teachings for us as His children to follow. In a nutshell, it is that we LOVE GOD and LOVE OTHERS.

A Real Faith

We have chosen to compassionately and actively live out this teaching and are doing so through the local church and through Heart of the City. What we do here is real.  There is no ulterior motive.  No monetary gain. We do what we do out of obedience to God.

A Peaceful Faith

Love is the motivation.  And from that, PEACE with one another is often an end result.  We have learned that when we do what we do with the right heart, God gives us PEACE in our own lives, but also we find a greater PEACE within our community. Yes, we learn to live "neighborly."

A Practical Faith

So no, we don't just hide in a hole and be religious, that would be silly.  Instead, we are practical and we actually DO what we know to DO.  We help our neighbors.  If hungry, we help feed them.  If unclothed, we held provide clothing.  If lost, we offer guidance.  Pretty practical really.

An Embracing Faith

God accepts us just as we are---warts and all.  And when He accepts us into His family, He is not content just leaving us where we are.  He wants us to learn, grow, and develop daily to be a little more like Jesus.  And as a result,  we begin to live a blessed life like we have never experienced before.  This is not crazy, not weird, not "over-religious", but it is different that what this crazy world shows you.  Want to learn more about this FAITH?  Want to have the HOPE we share?  Click on the link "WHO IS JESUS ANYWAY" and let's get started.
